I’m glad I did it, but I probably won’t again. The take on a pineapple upside down cake was my favorite. Dessert was great, but I was so full i left most of it on the plates (there are 4+). The cheese course was fantastic, and a creative take on fondue.

The other option was a lamb dish, which I remember being better than the beef, but I honestly can’t remember anything spectacular about it now. Then came a wagyu beef with two sauces, one a forgettable bernaise. This was a very notable dish, and was worthy of the price tag. The other option for this course was a fantastic duck croquette in a sauce that reminded me of foie gras with jelly, but it was made of mushrooms. Now is when you start thinking, “isn’t this supposed to be the French Laundry?” PS, this dish cost an extra $125. The hand rolled ricotta filled pasta should have helped cut through that, but you couldn’t even make out the ricotta. The first bite was amazing, but it was so rich it was hard to get through. Oh well, they can’t all be stars, right? Next came the truffle dish. The peas that accompanied didn’t have any sweetness and had the texture of an undercooked lentil. I actually had difficulty cutting it, which I thought was possibly due to me not being able to see well (we dined outside and had the late resos), but another person at the table said it was chewy before I could even cut through it and I figured out my vision was not the problem. The next course was, how do I say this politely, disappointing. This was probably the only single course with a mastery of balanced flavors.

Next was my favorite, a creative and well balanced Seder plate. Following was a refreshing cucumber salad, so that helped cleanse the palate, bread and butter followed, still all good. The first two dishes just didn’t belong next to each other. The famous oyster and pearls was fantastic, but again salt, though not quite as much as the amuse bouche.

The amuse bouche was a salt bomb, and I like salt, but the cheese cracker was reminiscent of chicken in a biscuit. I want to be clear, this was quite an experience, but the food was underwhelming.
